Al-Ajami Restaurant
On Tuesday, October 13 at three o'clock, I decided to go to a middle class restaurant because it was highly rated by the Detroit Press and their food is cheap. The restaurant is called Al-Ajami. The restaurant is located on 14633 W. Warren Ave, Dearborn, Michigan 48126. When I entered the Al-Ajami, I was pleased by their greetings. Al-Ajami is a well-known restaurant among the Dearborn residents. People come all the time to this restaurant, especially on holidays. Some people do gatherings there for a meeting or any event.
Before I entered the restaurant, I was amazed by the exterior of the restaurant. This was built with red beautiful bricks carved with the name of the restaurant in yellow. It had a neighboring doctor’s office and a coffee shop.
When I walked in the restaurant, the waitresses asked me if I would like to sit in the smoking or non smoking area. I said anywhere is fine. I noticed a glass wall separated the restaurant from the kitchen. There was a fireplace that the restaurant workers use to make fresh bread all the time. As I was walking towards the table, I noticed the wall paint was green and the other half blue. I also noticed lot of pictures and certificates on the wall. One of the pictures was a dark picture of a desert at night that displayed a crescent moon describing an Arabian place that had palm trees. Another picture was a painting of a river and on the river there was a boat. It was a relaxing painting to look at. The last picture covered an entire section of the wall; it displayed all types of fruits and vegetables. Some of the fruits and vegetables were banana, strawberry, carrots, and tomatoes. There was a picture of the owner and guests on the right side. There were also certificates and awards of appreciations that the restaurant had won. The restaurant had four big screen TVs on the walls. Each TV displayed a different show. One of the TVs was showing Full House, another one Dr .Oz and the last two had a program about commercial that I could not recognize.
I also noticed the windows. The windows were uniquely decorated with flowery middle-eastern décor style and held cages with butterflies by them. Another window had beautiful flowers in a very decorative vase that was crafted using heart shaped objects. Each window had a brown half-opened blind.
In addition, as I was being led to my table I noticed the carpet was an olive color with big and small circles and had a modern style. When I sat down, I looked at the tables and chairs which were all made out of wood. The cushions of the chairs were comfortable black leather. Above there were modern style lamps that came down like chandeliers and were painted with orange and red flowers.
I received the menu from the waitress. The Menu had all kinds of food varieties. It had breakfast delights that were served all day long such as meat and eggs mixed together, cheese pie, and hummus. They had cold appetizers like; yogurt with cucumber, grape leaves, and "jumbo shrimp cocktail." They also hot appetizer such as french fries and chicken wings. They served various spinach and fattouch salads. Their dinner included steak chops and chicken entrees, as well as family trays which contained everything in one entree. Moreover, they had seafood, mostly fish and shrimp. In terms of dessert, they had cheese cake, ice-cream, carrot cake and rice pudding. There was also a fresh juice bar that served fresh squeezed orange, apple, and mixed fruits juices were made.
The waitress came and asked me “what would you like?" I told her chicken escallop, rice, soup, and salad. Chicken escallop is my favorite dish. When the food arrived, it looked so delicious, and I couldn't wait to put a bite in my mouth. The food smells like chicken that is filled with garlic. The Chicken escallop was served with mushroom, tomato, cream cheese, and sauce. The rice was white with nuts and parsley on top. The soup contained chicken, chicken broth, noodles, rice, spices, and parsley. They served fresh bread that just came out of oven; it was so hot that I couldn’t touch it. I also had Pepsi for a drink.
I liked the taste of the chicken because it was tender and filled with spices. The rice tasted old, as if it lost the entire flavor in it. Otherwise, everything else was good. I also ordered rice pudding for dessert, which is my favorite. The rice pudding contained rice, milk, on top nuts, and honey. The prices are fair enough. The meal was $20.62. One could pay $4.50 for a dessert and entrees $15.95. They had special soup for the day which was $1.75 per cup.
The services at the Al-Ajami were good. The waitresses were very nice and welcomed me and made me feel at home. I had three people serving me. My lunch was served in about 15 minutes. One waitress brought the water, another brought the salad, and a different one brought the food. They treat me fairly and served their food in an efficient way.
Overall, Al-Ajami has the best food any restaurant can serve except for the rice because it didn’t taste good. Reservation are not required, but if it is on the holidays they’re recommended. I do recommend people to eat there because the workers were well-organized in the way they served my food. Also, their bathrooms, silverwares, and plates were clean.
